What are the husband's rights in a Khul', and what is he entitled to request and reclaim from the mentioned marriage expenses (travel ticket, Mahr Muqaddam (down payment of dowry), gold, household furniture, wife's travel expenses, monetary amounts paid to the wife)? And what is the religious ruling on a marriage whose purpose is to obtain citizenship?

The majority of scholars permit khulʿ (divorce at the wife's instance, in return for compensation) for any agreed-upon amount, whether small or large, and whether it is equal to or greater than the mahr (dowry) that was paid. This is based on the Almighty's saying: "So there is no blame upon them for what she gives to free herself."

However, the schools of thought differ on the details of this: The Malikis and Shafi'is: They permit the husband to take compensation from the wife in return for her separation, whether it is equal to, less than, or more than what he gave her, as long as both parties have mutually agreed. The Hanbalis: They do not recommend that the husband take more than what he gave her, and it is forbidden for him to take anything if he oppresses her to compel her to pay for her release. The Hanafis: They strongly disapprove (to the point of near prohibition) of the husband taking anything from the wife if the discord (nushūz) is from his side, based on the Almighty's saying: "And if you want to replace a wife with another and you have given one of them a qintar [a large sum of wealth], do not take anything from it." If the discord is from the wife's side, it is not disapproved for him to take compensation, and this includes both small and large amounts, even if it is more than what he gave her, although some of them also disliked taking more than what he gave her in this situation.

According to the opinion that taking more than the mahr is not permissible, then khulʿ does not include things that were not part of the mahr, such as travel expenses or household furniture, unless it was previously agreed that these matters were part of the mahr.
