Is it permissible for a man to supplicate, saying: "O Allah, I am a hypocrite, so remove hypocrisy from me"?

The statement "I am a hypocrite" is often uttered out of fear of hypocrisy and self-blame for shortcomings in sincerity and action, as happened with Handhalah and Abu Bakr. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified that maintaining a constant state of spiritual elevation in his presence and during remembrance would lead to angels shaking one's hand, and that the natural state is "an hour (for worship) and an hour (for worldly affairs)." Therefore, there is no objection to this statement if it is made with this intention. There is also no objection to a servant asking Allah to protect him from hypocrisy, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to seek refuge in Allah from discord, hypocrisy, and bad manners.
