Is mockery of the Prophets -peace be upon them- considered disbelief in all cases, or is it limited to mockery of their religion, prophethood, and message? And does the ruling differ between one who laughs at matters related to the Prophets' persons -such as the Prophet's poverty or the length of his hair- without intending disrespect, and one who laughs intending mockery?

Ridicule of the prophets, peace be upon them, in any matter whatsoever, is major disbelief that expels one from the faith, by scholarly consensus, and the ruling for its perpetrator is death.

As for one who laughs upon hearing ridicule of the prophets out of affirmation and رضا (contentment) with it, this is disbelief. However, if laughter overcomes one involuntarily, coupled with disavowal and dislike of it, then it is not disbelief.
