What is the ruling on befriending a righteous person if the father orders to abandon that friendship and threatens to curse his son?

Filial piety is one of the greatest acts of drawing closer to Allah, and disobedience to parents is one of the greatest evils. It is obligatory to obey one's father unless he commands disobedience. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned among the signs of tribulation: "A man obeys his wife and disobeys his mother, and treats his friend kindly while treating his father harshly." Do not cut off your relationship with a righteous friend. Rather, combine honoring your father with being kind to your friend. The wise person harmonizes between the two matters. Look into the reason why your father commanded you to cut off the friendship. If the reason is the righteousness of your friend, then the fault lies with your father, and honoring him remains obligatory. But if the reason is your neglect of your duties or studies because of the friendship, then you must give everyone their due and rectify your image.
