Why were few Companions buried in Mecca, even though their number exceeded one hundred thousand upon entering Mecca?
Many Companions were buried in Mecca and outside of it. The reason some were buried outside Mecca was due to the impermissibility for the Muhajireen (Emigrants) to settle in Mecca after their emigration from it, and their desire to die in Medina. Some of the Salaf (early generations) also disliked residing in Mecca, fearing boredom and sins. Additionally, a number of them dispersed into various lands as warriors and conquerors, and some settled in the conquered regions to teach people and establish the Sharia. Approximately forty thousand Companions attended the Farewell Pilgrimage.
