Is my work at a hotel reception, while not wearing a hijab, considered unlawful (haram), given my fear of dismissal and lack of any other source of income? And is it permissible for me to enter into a sham marriage with a non-Muslim for the purpose of emigration and to avoid spinsterhood and people's gossip?

A Muslim woman must adhere to the hijab, for it is the emblem of the believing woman and the symbol of her modesty and chastity. It is not permissible to abandon it for fear of losing sustenance, because Allah Almighty has guaranteed it and promised more of it to those who obey Him. Whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better. Similarly, it is not permissible for a Muslim woman to marry a non-Muslim, even if it is only on paper, for marriage is a serious matter, not a jest. Muslims have agreed on the prohibition of a disbeliever marrying a Muslim woman. Sustenance and marriage are among the things whose causes include obedience to Allah. What is with Allah cannot be attained except through obedience to Him. A Muslim woman should entrust her affairs to Allah and spend her time in acts of obedience.
