What is the advice for dealing with a wife who constantly badmouths her husband, refuses to reconcile with him, and excessively demands luxuries under the pretext that "Allah loves to see the effects of His bounty upon His slave," despite the husband's attempts to convince her to be moderate in spending and to give the remainder in charity?
The relationship between spouses should be based on affection, good companionship, and understanding, within a home where the boundaries of Allah are upheld, and where both spouses fear their Lord. The wife should be treated with kindness and wisdom, applying gentleness and strictness in their appropriate places, while considering the nature of women as described by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in his saying: "And treat women kindly, for woman was created from a rib, and the most crooked part of the rib is its upper part. If you try to straighten it, you will break it, and if you leave it, it will remain crooked. So treat women kindly." It is also obligatory for the husband to provide for his wife with kindness, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, their right upon you is that you treat them well in their clothing and their food." Any kindness exceeding the basic need, provided it is done with moderation, is considered a good deed for which the husband will be rewarded, on condition of avoiding extravagance.
