How can one deal with a mother who discriminates among her children in her treatment of them, and mistreats her eldest daughter, knowing that she is educated and knowledgeable in psychology?
One must be patient with a mother's harm and submit to her, due to her virtue in carrying, nursing, and staying up late for her children's well-being. One must speak to her gently and avoid showing annoyance or scolding, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [even] 'uff,' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, 'My Lord, have mercy upon them as they nurtured me when I was small.'" Furthermore, the reward is multiplied by enduring a mother's harm, and patience in this regard may be a cause for success in worldly affairs, as the Almighty says: "And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect." The mother is advised to fear Allah and be gentle in her treatment of her children.
