Is it authentically established in sound hadiths that the Angel of Death visits us five times a day to see if our time has come, and what is the reference for that?
It has not been reported in the authentic collections of Hadith that the Angel of Death visits the son of Adam five times daily. However, a weak Hadith is narrated in Musnad Al-Shihab from Anas ibn Malik, from Kharijah ibn Zayd, from his father, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Were you to see the appointed time (of death) and its journey, you would detest hope and its delusion. There is no household but that the Angel of Death visits them once every day. When he finds that someone's appointed time has expired, he seizes their soul. If their family cries and grieves, he says: 'Why do you cry and grieve? By Allah, I have not shortened your life nor withheld your sustenance, and I am not to blame. I will return to you again and again.'" This Hadith was mentioned by Al-Albani in Silsilat al-Da'ifah and Da'if al-Jami', by Al-Suyuti in Al-Durr al-Manthur, by Al-Ghazali in Ihya' 'Ulum al-Din, and by Al-Alusi in Ruh al-Ma'ani.
