The answer

Trimming nails is one of the practices of fitra (innate disposition). It is recommended to start with the right side, as Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) "liked to start with the right in putting on his shoes, combing his hair, performing ablution, and in all his affairs." Imam Al-Nawawi was of the opinion that it is recommended to start with the right hand, then the left, then the right foot, then the left, and he mentioned a specific order for the fingers. However, nothing has been authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) regarding the order of fingers when trimming nails. Scholars have indeed denounced establishing a recommended practice for which there is no evidence.
