Is it permissible for a Muslim to benefit from a found item (luqata) that was going to be used for unlawful purposes or acts of shirk, without announcing it or reporting it, no matter its value?

If the finder of a lost item knows its owner, he must return it to him. There is no sin upon him if the owner uses this money for something forbidden, and the finder has no authority to interdict him or prevent him from disposing of his own money. However, if the owner is not known, the lost item must be publicized for a year if it has value; otherwise, it is permissible to benefit from it without publicizing it.
