Is living in a mixed society—in study, work, and with relatives—while adhering to proper conduct, modesty, and responsibility, displeasing to God? Does this lifestyle invalidate prayers and acts of worship, and what is the extent of the sin that might result from it?

Implementing the Sharia (definition) of Allah is an obligation upon Muslims. If a society does not implement Sharia, this does not nullify the duties of individuals, nor does it permit forbidden acts. The common mixing of sexes is forbidden, and if one is compelled to it, the regulations of Sharia must be adhered to. Committing sins such as mixing does not invalidate prayer or other acts of worship. However, the sin that invalidates worship is disbelief (kufr) or what takes its place among the causes of apostasy, such as associating partners with Allah (shirk (definition)) or abandoning prayer according to those who consider its abandonment to be disbelief.
