What is the authenticity of the story of Abu Mihjan Al-Thaqafi at Al-Qadisiyyah, and is it permissible for a Companion to say: "By Allah, I will never whip you for wine again," and can he pardon a hadd (punishment) from among the hudud of Allah?

The story of Abu Mihjan and his heroism in the Battle of al-Qadisiyyah has been mentioned by historians and has not been challenged. Sa'd's words regarding Abu Mihjan, although some have denied that he abrogated the punishment for him, it is probable that he intended not to flog him if he repented with sincere repentance. The implementation of legal punishments (hudud) is a right of Allah, and it is not permissible to be lenient in them once they have been established.
