What is the ruling on making small wooden human figurines and drawing caricatures?

Making figurines of animate beings, whether they are statues with a shadow or without a shadow, and whether they are large or small, is forbidden by scholarly consensus. This is because it imitates Allah's creation and is one of the major sins. Al-Nawawi transmitted the consensus of scholars on the prohibition of depicting animate beings, emphasizing that this prohibition includes all types of images, regardless of whether they have a shadow or not, or whether they are treated with disdain or not. The Hanafis believe that the distinction between small and large images applies to possession and use, not to their creation, so the act of depicting is absolutely forbidden. The ruling on caricature figurines does not differ from others.
