Did the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, know anything about Judaism and Christianity?
The Prophet's, peace and blessings be upon him, knowledge of the details of Judaism and Christianity can be divided into two stages:
1. Before Prophethood and Messengership: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not know the details of other religions. Rather, his knowledge was general, like that of the rest of the people of Mecca. This serves as proof of his prophethood and a refutation of those who claimed he acquired knowledge from the People of the Book. Allah, the Almighty, says: (And thus We have revealed to you a spirit of Our command. You had no idea what the Scripture was or what faith was).
2. After Prophethood: Allah, the Almighty, taught him what he did not know, so he became more knowledgeable of the Jewish and Christian religions than they themselves. Allah, the Almighty, says: (And Allah has revealed to you the Book and wisdom and has taught you that which you did not know. And ever has been upon you the grace of Allah great). And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to 'Adi ibn Hatim: (I am more knowledgeable of your religion than you are), and then he explained that to him.
