What is the optimal course of action for a wife whose husband has stopped performing the prayer due to an experience he went through, knowing that he is ignorant of many religious matters, performs the rest of the pillars of Islam, and shows a willingness to return to prayer in the future?

Scholars have differed regarding the ruling on one who abandons prayer out of laziness. The majority view is that this does not expel him from the fold of Islam. Therefore, it is not forbidden for you to remain married to him.

If you find it beneficial to stay with him, then you should supplicate for his guidance and continue to advise him gently, reminding him that his procrastination with prayer is a delusion, as death might overtake him before he prays.

You may be patient with him, but if he persists in abandoning prayer, then it is preferable for you to seek a divorce.
