Is the questioner's lack of success in obtaining a job after bribing and taking a false oath to obtain a military service certificate considered a punishment from Allah?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The oath taken by the questioner is a perjurious oath (yamin ghamus), and according to the majority of scholars, there is no expiation for it other than sincere repentance and increasing good deeds. It is recommended to offer expiation as a precaution. Bribery is forbidden and is considered one of the major sins, except when a person uses it to obtain their right or to ward off injustice, in which case the sin falls upon the recipient of the bribe. It is obligatory to repent to Allah and seek refuge in Him, to strive through lawful means, and to practice piety, for Allah provides for those who fear Him from sources they could never imagine.
