The responsibility of raising children and protecting them from Hellfire falls upon the parents. They should teach them the correct creed, religious rulings, and Islamic manners from a young age. When the child understands speech, they should be given a devotional upbringing. They should be kept away from bad company and dens of corruption, and connected to the mosque, students of knowledge, and gatherings of good.

As for the appropriate age for memorizing the Quran: The Quran can be memorized at any age one is able to memorize. One should start with the short surahs with gentleness. The best years for memorization are the early years of life. It is recommended to start with the child in memorization when they begin to distinguish and pronounce letters correctly. Memorization should be gradual, verse by verse, from the short verses and surahs, with gentleness, encouragement, and praise, and avoiding any harshness or abuse.

Listening to the Quran is generally influential and may affect future memorization. Studies have been reported indicating that listening to the Quran during pregnancy or breastfeeding may positively affect children's later memorization of the Quran.
