Is it permissible for the indebted sponsored person, who has been entrusted with distributing the zakat of his sponsor's wealth, to pay off his debts from it without informing the sponsor?

It is permissible for an agent entrusted with delivering zakat to take from it for himself if he is among those eligible to receive it, such as being in debt, as this falls under the general meaning of the Almighty’s saying: "Indeed, [prescribed] charitable donations are only for the poor and the needy." Some scholars are of the opinion that it is not permissible, but the first opinion is stronger.
