Is the "luck" mentioned in the Holy Qur'an, as in the verses: (But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except one having a great portion) and: (Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females) – does it mean "portion" in both verses, or does it differ? And is "luck" linked to a person's righteousness, or is it a written portion regardless of their righteousness? And can the prostitute who entered Paradise because of a dog be considered lucky?

Luck (al-ḥaẓẓ) is the allotted share of good, and it includes both worldly and otherworldly luck. Worldly luck may be attained by the righteous and others, whereas otherworldly luck, which is entry into Paradise, is attained only by the believer. A believer may attain a great share of luck in Paradise even if they were stained by some transgression, due to repentance or good deeds that expiate sins, or the intercession of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and others, or expiating calamities, or the supplication of believers, or the trial of the grave, or the terrors of the Day of Resurrection.
