Is it permissible for a Muslim to imagine the form of God?

It is not permissible to imagine a form for the essence of Allah Almighty, for everything that the mind imagines or that comes to mind, Allah is unlike it; due to His saying, the Most High: "There is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing." And the human mind is limited; it cannot comprehend the essence of Allah nor can it imagine it. Whoever imagines a form for Allah is an anthropomorphist worshipping an idol. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade contemplating the essence of Allah and commanded contemplating His signs. Knowledge of Allah comes through His visible آثار (effects/signs), such as His power and wisdom. The cure for this intrusive thought is to turn away from it, seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan, and say: "There is no god but Allah, I believe in Allah."
