What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding false witnesses in a case of inheritance inventory, those who vouch for them, and the judge who refused to summon and investigate them despite knowing of their false testimony?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible for a Muslim to bear witness except to what he has witnessed or knows with certainty, as Allah says: (And we did not testify except to what we knew) and His saying: (Except those who bear witness to the truth and they know). A man bearing witness to what he does not know, and his commendation of a false witness, is one of the gravest major sins. Whoever bears false witness or commends it must repent sincerely and restore rights to their rightful owners.
