Is knowledge of the attributes of Allah – such as some being essential (dhati), some active (fi'li), and some essential-active (dhati-fi'li) – necessary, and are love and contentment among the essential-active attributes or only the active ones?
The essential is to have a general belief in the attributes of Allah Almighty that are established in His Book or in the of His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him. As for their details, ignorance of them does not invalidate the soundness of faith. Faith in Allah includes believing in what He has described Himself with and what His Messenger has described Him with, without distortion, negation, asking how, or anthropomorphism. For Allah, there is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing. Love and pleasure are attributes of action related to Allah's will and power, and they are all that came into existence after not being, by Allah's will and power.
