What is the ruling concerning a man in a village who does not pray and refuses to discuss prayer, and what is the ruling concerning his neighbors and acquaintances in the village?

If a man denies the obligatory nature of prayer, he is an infidel by consensus. However, if he affirms its obligatory nature but abanders it out of laziness, scholars have differed: the majority do not consider him an infidel, while some have gone as far as to consider him an infidel. His neighbors must advise him, remind him of Allah, and not despair of his guidance. If advice is unhelpful and shunning him would be more beneficial, then he should be shunned.
