What is the ruling on one who feigns prayer in the mosque with the congregation to please his father, while in reality he does not pray, and is he considered a disbeliever by doing so?

Prayer holds a tremendous status in Islam; it is the second pillar after the two Shahadas, and the first act of a Muslim that will be scrutinized. One who abandons it, denying its obligation, is considered an infidel by consensus. However, one who abandons it due to laziness is not considered an infidel according to the majority of scholars. Whoever pretends to pray to please his father should be mindful of Allah, fear Him, and draw closer to Him through worship. Pretending to pray without intention is impermissible. And whoever denies its obligation is an infidel, and if one abandons it out of laziness, he is in grave danger and must make up for the prayers he has missed.
