Is it permissible to write a wish and put it in a balloon and then release it, or write it in a bottle and throw it into the sea?

Releasing balloons, bottles, or candles to make wishes is a substitution of pre-Islamic rituals for legitimate supplication (du'a), even though Allah is near and answers the call of the supplicant, as stated in His words: (And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then I am indeed near. I respond to the invocations of the supplicant when he calls upon Me) and His saying: (Call upon Me; I will respond to you). These practices resemble the practice of seeking divination through arrows (al-azlam), which Allah prohibited with His words: (and that you seek divination through arrows; that is defiance). It is an innovation (bid'ah) not accepted by Islam, for every action not commanded by Allah is rejected, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: (Whoever performs an action which is not in accordance with our matter will have it rejected).
