Is marrying a woman who has repented from adultery, without informing anyone about it, considered a form of covering (ستر) for which a Muslim is rewarded, and is this the intended meaning of the hadith: "Whoever covers a Muslim in this world, Allah will cover him on the Day of Resurrection"?
Concealing the faults of a Muslim who was overcome by his lower self and repented is among the most virtuous deeds. This concealment includes those of good standing, not those known for harm and corruption, for concealing the latter is impermissible if it leads to mischief. The sin must be denounced immediately if the person committing it is still engaged in it. A man marrying his female relative, intending thereby to conceal her fault and keep her chaste, falls under the meaning of the recommended concealment. If the husband perceives the sincerity of his wife's repentance and that she will cease her action, then he may conceal her. Otherwise, divorce and separation are more appropriate.
