Is it true that whoever fasts on the day of Arafah will not die in the coming year?

The correct view is that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said about fasting the Day of Arafah: "I anticipate that Allah will expiate the sins of the year preceding it and the year following it." This hadith does not guarantee that one will remain alive for the next year; rather, it is an informative statement that fasting Arafah is hoped to expiate misdeeds and sins. The assertion that whoever fasts Arafah will not die in the coming year contradicts the words of Allah Almighty: (And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow). For knowledge of the appointed time is part of the unseen, which none knows save Allah.
