What is the Zakat of the body?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Zakat of the body is to protect it from the causes of Allah's torment and to purify it from polytheism and sins. It cannot be purified except by the purity of the soul and its submission to what has been legislated, and by continuous striving to take the means that draw one closer to Allah, such as hastening to acts of obedience and avoiding vices. Regarding the Zakat of donkeys, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it." In another hadith: "Every joint of a person has a charity due upon it every day the sun rises: administering justice between two people is charity; helping a man with his mount, lifting him onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it is charity; a good word is charity; every step you take towards prayer is charity; and removing a harmful thing from the path is charity."
