Does immodest display invalidate the fast?
Allah has legislated fasting to achieve piety towards Allah, which is the observance of His commands and the avoidance of His prohibitions. Sins are ugly from anyone, and they are uglier from a fasting person, because the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever does not give up false speech and acting upon it and ignorance, Allah has no need for him to give up his food and drink." Thus, sins (such as a woman’s immodest display) diminish the reward of fasting, and may even nullify it completely, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Many a fasting person gets nothing from his fasting except hunger." Nevertheless, sins do not invalidate the fast itself, nor does it need to be made up, rather its reward is diminished.
