What is the ruling on relinquishing a portion of an inheritance to a son to encourage him in his project, and to what extent is one responsible for its loss and the severing of kinship ties with him, and what can be done to rectify it?

For a wise and mature person, it is permissible to relinquish their share of an inheritance, especially if it is for a needy relative and the person is self-sufficient. However, if your brother squanders money or uses it for sinful acts, you should not give him money, as Allah Almighty says: "And do not give the foolish your property."

The advice is to strive to establish a project for him, but do not allow him to manage it or its proceeds until you are certain that he has abandoned corruption.

You are not responsible for your brother's downfall; your stance of not giving him money was correct. He is the one who has cut off the family, yet you should advise him and maintain ties with him as much as you can, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The one who maintains ties is not the one who reciprocates, but the one who maintains ties is he who, when his kinship is cut off, reconnects it."

To reform him: treat him for addiction, nurture the seed of goodness within him, and connect him with righteous companions. Then, after his improvement, he can be financially assisted.
