What is a supererogatory prayer and how is it performed?

Voluntary prayers (Nawafil) are all prayers other than the five obligatory daily prayers. They include the regular Sunnah prayers, both those performed before and those performed after the obligatory prayers, as well as emphasized and non-emphasized Sunnah prayers.
