The question

Are acts of worship, such as prayer and zakat, performed out of hypocrisy and seeking reputation, subject to the practitioner's entering Hellfire, as mentioned in the noble Hadith about the mujahid, the one who gives charity, and the scholar, who will be the first to fuel the Hellfire on the Day of Resurrection, or is their recompense merely non-acceptance and the nullification of the deed?

The answer

Hypocrisy (Riyaa’) is among the major sins and nullifies good deeds. It incurs a tremendous sin. The hypocrite who intends nothing but hypocrisy by his act of worship will find his worship invalid, and he will bear a great sin and earn ugly dispraise.
