How do we respond to the specious argument about the eternal damnation of disbelievers in Hell, even though their disbelief in this world was finite and not eternal?

The specious argument of disbelievers, that they found themselves in their state, does not depart from the sophistry of the materialists. Indeed, man is responsible for worshipping Allah who created him. Allah sent messengers to clarify the path of guidance and the recompense for faith and disbelief. So, whoever associates partners with Allah, Paradise is forbidden to him. The virtuous and the wicked are not equal in the sight of Allah, and His mercy encompasses all things, and it is for the pious believers. Allah has shown man two paths, and he has the freedom to choose. So, whoever chooses disbelief with clear insight, there is no injustice to him if he is punished. The disbelievers who argue that they found themselves in this state—their argument is not accepted. They must strive to emerge from misguidance, for if the message of the Messenger reaches them, their excuse is cut off. As for those whom the call has not reached, or reached in a distorted manner, their matter is with Allah in the Hereafter, for Allah does not punish except after establishing the proof.
