What is the point of difference between Gabriel's coming to Mary, peace be upon her, in the singular form in Surah Maryam: "Then We sent to her Our Spirit, and he appeared to her as a perfectly formed human," and the plural form in Surah Al Imran: "When the angels said, 'O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him,'" and the response to her in the singular: "He said, 'Thus [it is]; your Lord says,' " in Surah Al Imran?

The Holy Quran contains no contradictions or discrepancies; its verses affirm one another. The verses in Surat Maryam and Surat Aal-Imran concerning the glad tidings of Jesus (peace be upon him) are not contradictory. The "Spirit" in Surat Maryam refers to Gabriel (peace be upon him), who is also intended by the word "angels" in Surat Aal-Imran, where the plural form is used for emphasis and veneration. Jesus (peace be upon him) was called a "Word" because he came into existence by the word "Be!" without an ordinary cause. Mary's question was about how the pregnancy would occur, not an exclusion of Allah's power, as she knew that Allah is capable of all things.
