What is the ruling on one who writes the Qur’an with his blood to draw closer to Allah?

Before performing any act of obedience or drawing closer to God, a Muslim must ensure that it is indeed something that brings one closer to God. This is because drawing closer to God is not based on people's whims, but rather it refers back to what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, clarified. He left nothing that brings one closer to God or warns against hellfire unstated. What the man did, writing the Quran with blood, is a terrible ignorance and a great abomination. Blood is impure according to most scholars, and writing the Quran with impurities is a great desecration of it. Scholars have ruled that such a person, due to his ignorance, is treated as one who desecrates the Quran. All Muslims must strive to learn the rulings of Islamic law and seek knowledge from reliable sources to avoid such transgressions.
