A child must combine filial piety with obedience to parents in what is good. When the piety towards the mother conflicts with that towards the father, the mother's piety is given precedence according to the majority of scholars. If the father dies displeased with his child without a valid reason, there is no blame on the child. However, if he dies displeased with a valid reason, the child must repent, frequently seek forgiveness for him, supplicate for him, give charity on his behalf, maintain kinship ties, and honor his friends.
