Is one who believes or suspects himself to be a Wali (friend) of Allah, while not being conceited, sinful?

The friends (Awliya') of Allah are those who have attained faith and piety, for Allah the Almighty says: "Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve Those who believed and were fearing of Allah." Whoever is characterized by these attributes is a friend of Allah. There is no sin upon one who strives to be characterized by them and believes himself to be a friend of Allah, especially if it stems from good expectation of Allah and hope for His bounty. However, he must be extremely cautious of conceit and not be deceived by his perceived distance from it. Ibn al-Qayyim said: "And whoever thinks well of himself, he is among the most ignorant of people concerning himself."
