The wife is not obligated to help her husband with her own maintenance or that of their children, except for the amount agreed upon in exchange for his permission for her to work. The husband is permitted to ask her for that. It is more befitting for the wife to help her husband in facing the high cost of living and the family's needs. As for his help to her in her studies, if it was given with the intention of a loan, then he has the right to demand it, and she must pay it back. If it was a gift, then he does not have the right to demand it, but she should return the favor.
