Is it permissible to dispose of statues of animate beings in the home that are used for decoration, without the permission of their owners?

The Fiqh Encyclopedia states that making three-dimensional images (statues) is forbidden according to the majority of scholars, with exceptions made for those that are children's toys, or those that are debased, or those from which a limb essential for life is missing, or those that are not durable, such as images made of sweets or dough. If the three-dimensional objects are not among the exceptions, then they must be destroyed or disfigured in a way that removes their imagery, provided that this does not lead to a greater harm or damage to the doer.
