To know the opinion of a specific madhhab (school of thought), one should search in the books of that madhhab in the dedicated chapters, for example, searching for the ruling on tanned leather according to the Hanbalis in the book of purification, chapter on vessels. To know the opinions of the madhhabs generally, there are old books such as "Bidayat al-Mujtahid" by Ibn Rushd, and modern ones such as "The Kuwaiti Fiqh Encyclopedia." To know the opinion of a specific scholar like Ibn Taymiyyah, one should search in his books, or the books of his students like Ibn al-Qayyim.
