What is the path to commitment, and how can the difficulty of commitment be overcome despite associating with committed individuals, along with the fear of dying in a state of hypocrisy?
Commitment is the servant's fulfillment of what he has been religiously obligated to do, which includes obeying Allah's commands and refraining from His prohibitions. It is not an optional matter. Every legally responsible person must obey Allah's commands outwardly and inwardly, perform His obligatory duties, and avoid His forbidden acts. To achieve this, one must strive against the self, resist desires, and utilize supportive means such as keeping company with the righteous and avoiding bad companions and places of amusement. Allah Almighty says: "And those who strive for Us - We will surely guide them to Our ways" and "But as for he who feared the station of his Lord and prevented the soul from [unlawful] desire, then indeed, Paradise will be his refuge." One must strive to commit and associate with committed individuals to counteract weakness of faith, and not pay attention to the whispers of Satan.
