How does a person commit, and what must they do and refrain from?

The committed person is one who observes God's commands, boundaries, and prohibitions. The basis for this is knowledge of what God has enjoined and forbidden, for uprightness cannot coexist with ignorance of the rulings of the Sharia. The Muslim must follow knowledge with action, performing obligations and recommended acts, and abstaining from prohibitions and disliked acts. If they sin, they should hasten to repent, being mindful that God is watching them. They should strive to reform their heart by filling it with the love, fear, and hope of God, cutting off attachment to worldly life, and controlling their limbs according to the Sharia. Among the greatest aids to uprightness are acquiring beneficial knowledge and accompanying righteous people.
