Is the wife obliged to obey her husband if he orders her to leave her government job—which is her specialization—and continue in his private business, under the pretext that his work can be performed from home, even though this causes her exhaustion?

A man does not have the right to compel his wife to work in his private business, because a wife's obedience to her husband pertains to matters of marital life. It is not permissible for her to go out to work except with his permission, even if she was working before marriage, unless she stipulated working before marriage, in which case he must fulfill this condition. The husband is advised to fear Allah concerning his wife and not to obligate her to what the Sharia has not obligated her, for a woman's primary role is to care for her home, her husband, and her children.
