What is the ruling on aborting a fetus in its fourth month after doctors have determined it is afflicted with a disease that causes a deficiency in its blood platelets, given the deterioration of the mother's health and her own low blood platelet count?

There are two situations concerning abortion: 1. After the ensoulment: It is unanimously forbidden because it is killing a soul unjustly. 2. Before the ensoulment: Scholars differed on this matter. The Hanafis and Shafi'is held it permissible, while the Hanbalis deemed it permissible before forty days. The Malikis, whose view is the fatwa, held it impermissible absolutely, unless the mother's life is in danger or the fetus has died in her womb.

Therefore, abortion is not permissible unless doctors determine that continuing the pregnancy poses a danger to the mother's life, and not merely a possibility of disease transmission to the child.
