Does Allah's favoring of some of His servants mean that He loves them more than others, or is it merely sustenance unrelated to love?

Giving a servant a blessing does not mean that he is favored or loved by God. God may grant a servant blessings in this world, but that does not mean He loves him. He may favor a disbeliever in this world with some blessings, but the Hereafter is for the righteous.
