What is meant by "the purpose of all acts of worship is one" when combining intentions in a single act?

Perhaps the Shaykh's intention is that sharing the intention is permissible if the two acts of worship are not intended for themselves. As for an act of worship that is intended for itself, it cannot be subsumed under another. This is the criterion for the issue.
