Does water dripping from the tap onto the ground and wetting clothes invalidate ablution and prayer?

If a Muslim performs ablution (wudu) in a clean place, there is no harm if water falls onto the ground and then splashes onto the body or clothing. The default state of a place is purity, and it should not be judged as impure except with certainty. Performing ablution in a bathroom designated for relieving oneself is permissible, as the bathroom floor is pure, except for the area where one relieves oneself.

The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta was asked about the ruling on performing ablution in the bathroom, and they responded: "If a barrier is placed between the water coming from the faucet and the place of impurity, such that when the water falls onto the ground, that ground is pure, then there is no objection to performing ablution and istinja (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself)." They were also asked about a man urinating in the bathroom, and they replied: "Yes, it is permissible for him to do so while being careful about urine splashes. It is legislated for him to pour water over it so that it goes down immediately if he wishes to perform ablution in that place." They also stated: "If it is easy for him to perform ablution outside the bathroom, then it is more complete to perform it outside, while remembering to say Bismillah at the beginning. Otherwise, he may perform ablution inside the bathroom and be cautious of any impurity that might be present." Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen issued a fatwa that the default state of clothes is purity, and they should not be judged as impure merely by entering the bathroom unless one is certain of the presence of impurity on them, citing the Prophet Muhammad's (peace and blessings be upon him) hadith: "He should not leave until he hears a sound or finds a smell." If a Muslim is certain of the presence of impurity on his clothing, this does not invalidate his ablution. However, he must remove the impurity before prayer, because impurity does not affect the validity of ablution, but rather affects the validity of prayer.
