Is it permissible to pray and perform ablution without placing something to prevent the spread of urine in the event that cotton is unavailable or an alternative is ineffective? And does ablution become void if a small amount of urine gets on the underwear in this case? And does excessive splashing of water increase doubt? And does the emission of gas with a sound – without an odor – nullify ablution?

If what you are feeling is waswasah (whispers from Satan), then ignore it. However, if the emission of urine is a confirmed matter and you are unable to control it, then there is no blame upon you. The Maliki school of thought holds that tahaffuz (taking precautions to prevent the spread of impurity) is not obligatory for someone from whom hadath (ritual impurity) exits involuntarily, in order to alleviate hardship. As for sprinkling water on clothes after relieving oneself, it is permissible to ward off waswasah. Regarding wind, its emission nullifies wudu (ablution) if there is certainty of it and it is not merely waswasah. And if you suffer from incontinent flatulence, the ruling is as we explained in the previous fatwa.
