Is it permissible to build a mortuary washroom for the deceased inside the mosque?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If the endower (waqif) stipulated the construction of a mortuary washroom along with the mosque's facilities, then it must be built with its door opening outwards, to protect the mosque from impurities and harm, and to prevent people from passing through the mosque for purposes other than prayer. However, if the endower did not stipulate this, then it is not permissible to allocate a part of the mosque's land or structure for a mortuary washroom, because that would be diverting the endowment from its original purpose, which is the mosque. The mosque must be protected from anything that the soul finds repugnant and from being defiled by what comes out of the deceased.
